Was Perplexity alles so über die Band weiß – What Perplexity knows about the band (February 2025)

Cloud Nine & The Vitamin C was a psychedelic rock band from Germany that was active from 1983 to 1992. The band was founded in Heppenheim an der Bergstraße and was mainly active in the Rhine-Main area.

Core members of the band were:

    Dominik Engel (keyboard and vocals)

Mike Schröder, also known as Mike Floyd (bass and vocals)

The band went through various line-ups, with Engel and Schröder remaining the only constant members. They began as a school band and evolved over the years.

Musical style:

Focus on psychedelic music of the 1960s

Influences of hard rock from the early 1970s

Inspiration from bands like The Doors, Pink Floyd, and The Temptations

Special features:

The band emphasised their own compositions

Live performances were organised as multimedia events with Super 8 films and psychedelic slide projections

They played in youth centres, at local festivals and in underground clubs.

Cloud Nine & The Vitamin C released several cassettes during their active period. Their last live performance took place on 22 February 1992 at the Eledil in Darmstadt. The band disbanded during the recording of their first album, which was never officially released.

Posthumous releases:

"Draw Down The Distance": An album of unreleased recordings, including tracks from the unfinished album from 1992

    "Rainfrontier": Another posthumous release

These releases give an insight into the band's music, which was only known to a limited audience during their active period.

A little Band history

Von Cloud Nine & The Vitamin C gab es insgesamt 6 verschiedene „MK-Versionen“ (also 6 verschiedene Besetzungen).

There were a total of 6 different "MK versions" of Cloud Nine & The Vitamin C (i.e. 6 different line-ups).
See here: – Band History

Of the three guitarists, Peter Schupp was with the band the longest. Unfortunately, he will not be heard on the LP and the 10", as the usable recordings were only made after his time.
On the photo - presumably from 1989 - you can see (from left to right): Mike, Dominik, Christof (Lightshow), Peter. Not on the photo: the drummer at that time (either Jens, or if he had already left, temporary drummer Denner).

Cloud Nine - Evolution of a Psychedelic Rock Band (1983-1992)

Cloud Nine & The Vitamin C, live 1989

In the near future I will post some stuff of the german Psychedelic Rock/Jam Band named CLOUD NINE & THE VITAMIN C to show the evolution of that group, which started in late 1983 as a school band and ended in 1992 after many line-up changes as a promising Neo-Psych act in full flight...

Soon you will get the chance to hear some stuff of CNVC. Hopefully. I tried to post a collage of some of their, hmm ... greatest hits, that I had posted some time ago on my blog Homemade Lofi Psych, so that you could decide for yourself if you REALLY want to listen to this kind of stuff... be warned: THIS REALLY IS HOMEMADE LOFI PSYCH!!! – from a band that had great ideas and great ideals, but hardly the technical abilities (at least in the beginning) ... but ... sadly I can't find that collage at the moment.

"On the one hand we were 20 years too late in what we were doing, on the other hand 20 years too early. Right in the middle – in a musical desert."
(Quote of Peter Schupp, CNVC guitar player 1983-89, in the year 2007)

Peter S., Cloud Nine & the Vitamin C, live 1985
